Education Technology

21st Century learning involves more than just the use of technology and digital media. However, because we increasingly live in a digital world we certainly need to learn to use the tools that have become essential to life and work in our present time.

In the Skills Foundation, we believe that the effective use of technology is only one element of a 21st century education. Schools still require that students master core academic subjects, but we propose that the content be infused and enhanced with themes and skills that are vital ingredients to success in the 21st century.

The New Media Consortium (www.nmc.org) in a recent report has identified a number of key current and emerging technologies that are fast becoming central to modern learning environments. Here in the Foundation, we are working with a number of partner companies to develop education solutions which leverage these new and emerging technologies.

The key technologies are:

  1. Cloud Computing
  2. Mobile Learning
  3. Tablet Computing
  4. MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses)
  5. Open Content
  6. Learning Analytics
  7. Games and Gamification
  8. 3D Printing
  9. Virtual and Remote Laboratories
  10. Wearable Technology

Our Programmes

Working closely with partners in education and industry, we are building a portfolio of blended learning programmes. Each of these programmes lead to certification from the Skills Foundation. laptop
